Chinese vice-premier cements Irish links
Signalling the ever closer economic and academic ties between Ireland and China, Chinese vice-premier Zeng Peiyan paid a three-day visit to Ireland recently. His itinerary included a business breakfast in Dublin attended by industry leaders and senior officials from State agencies. Speaking at that event, Enterprise Minister Micheal Martin, TD, emphasised the importance of the academic links between the two countries - there are now 15 Irish universities and institutes of technology running joint programmes with Chinese third level institutions. Minister Martin said Ireland had built a "fast expanding trading relationship with the world's largest market" and was keen to further expand its contacts with China.
