As many as 200,000 Apple iPhones will be sold in the UK over Christmas and the New Year, according to O2. The phone went on sale in the UK on Friday, 9 November although it's not expected to hit Irish shores before Q1 2008.O2 is the exclusive mobile network for the handset and it predicts that the iPhone will be its fastest selling handset yet despite its hefty £269 (€386) price tag. The handset will be available through Apple, 02 and Carphone Warehouse outlets.
Matthew Key, chief executive of 02's UK business, said he expected "a couple of hundred thousand" iPhones to be sold within the first two months of launch. The bullish sales forecasts are based on the fact that more than 1.2 million iPhones have been sold in the US since the device was launched in June.
