A hassle-free text messaging system that allows farming group Teagasc to manage SMS communications easily and cost effectively has earned Púca a prestigious ICT Excellence award in Ireland.
Traditionally, this contact has been by letter, email or telephone but Teagasc recently implemented an advanced text messaging system for co-ordinating its activities.
Teagasc is the national agriculture and food development authority and its personnel are in regular contact with farming groups, farmers and other individuals associated with the farming and food production area.
The system uses mPlatform, Púca’s web-based text messaging application that allows organisations of any size to manage their text messaging requirements.
Teagasc has found the system to be a very efficient and cost effective way of communicating with its target audience, many of whom are mobile workers of one sort or another. The agency successfully piloted the service between June and October 2006 and is now rolling it out nationally.
Teagasc has 1,600 employees nationwide. As well as offering advice to farmers, it has a research and development arm plus a training and development division, which runs courses in a range of agricultural and horticultural disciplines.
The ICT Excellence Awards, now in their 6th Year, recognise Ireland’s outstanding achievers in the Information and Communications Technology industry.
This is the second major awards success for Púca recently. Last month, Púca was awarded Best Mobile Marketing Campaign 2006 for its Irish Heart Foundation Campaign at the Digital Media Awards, Ireland’s premier showcase for the Digital Media sector.
